[2.0.72] Crash loading save (LoadHelper::setup)

Place for things which are bugs but we have no idea how to solve them. Things related to hardware, libraries, strange setups, etc.

[2.0.72] Crash loading save (LoadHelper::setup)

Post by Mosii2710 »

Hello Factorio team,

I encountered a consistent crash while loading a save after updating Space Exploration (SE) to newer versions.
The crash seems to occur at the engine level during entity deserialization (map loading), not in Lua scripts.

Looking into your save - there's at least 1 entity that's corrupt in it. When I try to load with or without mods I get this consistency crash error:
43.370 Error UpdatableEntity.cpp:126: updatable entity [name=fish, type=fish(Fish), position={7.996, -14.000}, direction=<no>, force=<no>, surface=Tzelma, setup=true, owned-by-ghost=false, to-be-deconstructed=false, to-be-upgraded=false, simulation=false] should be active on chunk [0, -1] (surface Tzelma) but is active on chunk [11, 17] (surface Tzelma)
The most common cause of this is the position getting corrupt during saving due to RAM failure. Do you have a different save file that doesn't have this corrupt fish in it that also crashes in the load helper setup?
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

Hey,

thanks for reviewing my save file. I had one save game and three autosaves all corrupt. The backup is 4 days (about 12 hours) old, and it worked without any crashes.

Do you mean I have a RAM failure? Do I need new RAM?

I can’t know for sure, even fully working RAM sometimes has random flips. You’d need to test to see if anything reports as fault or not.
