Land Mine Question
Land Mine Question
I'm trying to make my main base on Glega and the big Stompers are giving me problems. I know they attack by walking on stuff so my question is. Do land mines work on them or do they break the landmines before they can explode?

						Re: Land Mine Question
As of this update in 2.0.48:
Myself, I don't use landmines because they deplete and need to be deployed again during combat in case there are too many enemies. I use rocket turrets with explosive rockets and laser turrets as finisher before I unlock tesla turrets. Tesla turrets then replace the lasers. Since lasers cannot stun and slow down enemies, there will always be some equipment destroyed, so make sure you have roboport coverage over your defense perimeter, keep some space between the defense perimeter and your factory, and have enough repair kits and replacement items in the logistic network.
May be just a thin line of land mines to slow down enemies as 3rd weapon in addition to rocket turrets and lasers will avoid that damage - didn't try that yet, because for some reason my early Gleba bases get attacked very rarely and before I'm able to see what damage has been done, it's already repaired and ghosts replaced.

Landmines are a viable weapon against stompers as far as I understand corresponding comments.

Re: Land Mine Question
They work and stompers are segmented, so if there's a segment in a AOE they'll take extra damage. Bonus damage has to be balanced against the fact they are a static defense. Even if a landmine does say, 3K damage that's 5+ mines going off for a kill on the worst stompers. That's quite a bill in steel and explosive, probably balanced against turrets.

Re: Land Mine Question

That isn't untrue. It mainly effects early game, when you're resource starved. It also affects starts that go to Gleba first.
There's every second after you get enough resources. If you go to Vulcanus first, you can do a odd combo like basic liquifaction or coal liquifaction for sulfur->explosive. You could do that combo as you develop Gleba too, so you aren't spending bioflux you need for agricultural science on explosives. You'll want a big drill though because you can't really deploy landmines in water.
If you apply late game logic to it, they can be an effective counter. I would also argue that as you move through the game, it's more viable to break down asteroids so that you are punishing rocks instead of trees. Rocks are the true enemy of the game, trees just have a bad rep because they get in the way.
