Parallel energy system?

Does Factorio support any way to create a parallel energy system? Some way to generate power and distribute it through "power pole" buildings, that is distinct from electricity? Or is the electric grid just hard-coded into the game?

There is no such engine support for other systems of energy distribution.

Noone ever presented an interesting use case for having separate electric energy networks that i would remember, and we are not going to add this blindly because it would be a quite complex project to be done, and it would require some weird new cases to be solved like not allowing copper wires between electric poles that would provide a different types of electric networks and all related migration cases around this.
