In the early game, flamethrower turrets are a good option. A gun turret has a range of 18, but a flamethrower has 30.
Another good option is mines outside your walls, but this can be a hassle if you don't have construction bots to lay them for you.

Spitters will occasionally attack the outer wall parts as they approach and not come closer, exactly as in your video. To reach them with turrets, don't build your dragon teeth so far away from the turrets. The spitters must get into turret range without being able to attack, otherwise they might start attacking and stay outside of the turret range.
Behemoth spitters have range 16, laser turrets have range 24, so the maximum safe distance of the farthest dragon tooth and a laser turret is 24-16=8.
Example wall with this wall width: (artillery turret not required and not relevant ere)

Ah, I see. Behemoth spitters have a range 16 and turrets have 24.
24-16 = 8 squares between turret and last fortification. Glad I don't have to deal with flamethrowers.
Thank you <3

Flamethrowers are a bit more hassle than gun turrets or lasers, but not a lot more hassle. You don't need very many of them. When I use them, I create a blueprint to tile them spaced out at the maximum length of an underground pipe. That gives enough coverage to supplement gun turrets nicely.
Re: [SOLVED] How to deal with biters attacking outside of turret range.
A combination of turrets is usually needed. Lasers alone are not sufficient, they simply take too long to bring down a behemoth enemy. Tesla turrets are too weak as well because of their very slow shooting speed. I added them to stall the fastest biters to not reach the inner wall too much, which is successful here.
But the relevant damage is from flamethrower turrets.
(don't ask why they wait for a second just outside all turret range, then proceed all at once)
And why no gun turrets: no moving parts, no ammo supply infrastructure, no ammo shortage, and no dead cargo on belts and chests, no hassle.

You may need to account for "behemoth worms" as over time biters evolve and create new nests, possibly with those that have a range of 48, requiring artilleries to outrange otherwise they can drain ressources destroying part of the wall.
