[2.0.72][SA] Space platform module inserter gets stuck when asked to insert impossible modules

Post by DeHackEd »

Attached savegame with replay for reference. Some fumbling of the controls by me at the start.

Process:

1) Make a space platform. Send it Assembling Machine2 and some modules to be inserted.
2) Build the assembling machine on the platform with modules
3) Make a blueprint for an Assembling Machine 3 with all 4 modules in it, same as what the platform has on hand
4) Super-Force the blueprint over the assembling machine 2 in space. It will be an upgrade request since no AM3 are available.
5) Try to build more assembling machine 2 in orbit like in step 2

Expected result: Machines build as expected
Actual result: Machines don't get modules. They just get stuck with module requests that aren't fulfilled despite the modules being available in the hub.

Deconstructing the machine that's being upgraded resolves the issue and the requested modules are inserted immediately.

I created this example following your description:
  • Right-hand Assembling Machine 2 was built with 2 Speed Modules inserted
  • 2 extra Modules placed in the Space Platform Hub
  • Upgraded AM2 to Assembling Machine 3 with 4 Modules total
  • "Auto Request missing construction material" for the AM3 is added
  • The 2 Speed Modules in the Hub are "Reserved" for the not-yet-built Assembling Machine 3
  • Left-hand Assembling Machine 2 was built with a request for 2 Speed Modules
  • Auto-Request for the missing 2 Speed Modules is added. It counts as "Fulfilled" (not tinted Red)
  • Once the AM3 arrives it will be built, and the 2 Speed Modules will get inserted to the right-hand AM3
  • The Auto-Request for Modules will become active
  • Once the Modules arrive they will get inserted to the left-hand AM2

I am not sure what is "Wrong" here? Once the requests are fulfilled properly everything builds as it should. The newer-built machines cannot "steal" the modules that are already Reserved for previously-built/requested upgrades.

Add more modules to the platform. The 2 you have aren't reserved. If you fill it up with modules it still won't insert them. In my recording I made several AM2 requesting modules... like, 3 or 4 or them. None got modules. The moment I deconstruct the upgrade-pending AM2 all of them suddenly get modules. I just tossed in a whole stack of 50 modules for simplicity and demonstration.

Maybe ordering matters?

A-ha, that was not apparent from the description! This is why I went ahead and created a minimal reproduction case to see it for myself. Providing an Assembling Machine 3 un-blocks the construction queue.

Yes, Ordering seems to matter. Cancelling the Upgrade (and immediately Un-doing the cancel with Ctrl-Z) also un-blocks the queue.
