Insert a Processing Unit in the Rocket silo

Post by Mikiheaven »

Hello Everyone! Good Space Age to you :)

I am trying to insert Processing units in the rocket silo (more precisely a stack of Uncommon ones).
But the inserter does not move...
I guess it is because the processing unit is in the recipe for the rocket (Both rockets are already built).
But I want it in the cargo, not in the recipe.
How should I do that?

Thank you in advance :)

(my character is not on the same planet)

Workaround for now is to request it from the space platform hub, and have the silo fulfill those requests.
My mods include Titanium, Lead, and more

i also use the work around mentionned by brevven, which require robots loading

Thank you!
I didn't understand the logistic request from the silo, but I did it from the space platform and it worked!

I had the same problem, the standard processing unit rocket capacity is like 55000 which is way to big, in the space platform window where you request stuff, when you adjust the amount of a request there is a tick box which lets you set a custum minimal rocket capacity. Just set that to something under 2000 and your rocket can send it up to the platform.

You can't do what you want (insert arbitrary cargo with inserters). You must insert processing units using the option in the rocket silo to fulfill logistics requests automatically, and then you must request processing units from the space platform. There is no other way.

There is actually a mod for this now:
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/RocketCargoInsertion
I really hope this gets fixed with 2.1, automatically fulfilling requests is not really feasible in the endgame due to the volume and speed that rockets need to be launches with, ignoring the huge drone FPS/UPS impact.

If you have processing units in your cursor, you can shift click on a slot in the rocket silo and robots will come deliver.
You have to do this fot each delivery, so it's only useful if you just need the processing units once.

You can stuff things in a buffer chest right next to the silo and have a roboport with a logistics drone request right next to it. Loads a silo *very* fast.

That doesn't really scale and feels like a bad workaround for something that should work out of the box. It would also require to build this workaround for just these materials, which makes blueprinting and modularizing difficult.

You actually can insert, but you have to disable automatic logistic requests. The rockets will still launch once filled with requested items. This is how we deal with things like calcite on Volcanus.

It is 300, not "like 55000". Its really not that big.

That works for everything, which is not part of the rocket part recipe, but only for that.

This thread is about Processing Units, not items that are not part of the rocket part recipe ;)

There is no compelling reason to insert processing unit in the rocket silo if you want to be UPS efficient in late game ( let alone "uncommon") imo so the argument that "bots have a huge impact when used to do so" is not pertinent i think. Beside being unsubstanciated.

Processing units can be made in space if you need them in Aquilo.

Ah yes...I think I even got that context from the thread and somehow it leaked out of my brain. :) I'll just see myself out.

While true, the rocket silo's in question start to compete with other rocket silo's, that are also set to logi request, in other bases on the same planet. The whole point of directly inserting parts into the rocket silo (like these Processing Units, PU's) is to make dedicated bases to launch items in large quantities into space, for example to supply aquilo. Now that these rocket silo's are set to logi request, and do not already have PU units in their inventory they will be put in the same queue as al other logi request set rocket silo's in other bases. If other bases also have PU's there is a high likely hood the rocket silo's in other bases will be used over these "dedicated" rocket silo's. I basically rendered my whole dedicated PU and LDS bases useless ...

I tried the following dedicated PU base with belts and logi bots. As mentioned, with belts it does not work. With logi bots, the rocket silo's are only ever priortized over rocket silo's in my main base that also happens to have Processing Units. So my main base is still hold back by large request for PU's and this base is almost not used ... we really need direct inserted PU, LDS and Rocket Fuel support for rocket silo's. Altho due to supply chain recipies Rocket Fuel is less of a problem.

The easiest way is to make it possible to make rocket parts into assemblers and insert those into rocket silo's.
