On Aquilo, where player `luc` is standing (approx. coordinates: 156,10388), I had trouble placing a rail signal. The game reports "invalid rail signal position". Only after removing a piece of rail between the rail stop (to the north) and where I want to place the signal, it works. The signal keeps working after placing back the missing piece of rail. This is the current state of the save game. The issue is reproducible: when you remove the signal, it cannot simply be placed back. I assume that means it's a valid rail position after all and that this is a bug. It also reproduces after freshly loading the save file
I know it is a relatively old Factorio version. I've looked online and also specifically on the forums for the reported game message (invalid rail signal position) but found no mention of this issue, so I suspect it's neither already reported and also not mentioned in a changelog. I don't currently have the disk space to download the new Factorio version to try it out (and if I update the existing version, friends have to update also, as well as that recipes will change). If that's a blocker for validating this bug, I understand, I can try to free up some space and get it tested

[2.0.48] Signal cannot be placed. Once placed with a workaround, the position is now deemed valid

That.. is not a bug.
At first i was going to link to 128880 because i was thinking it will be a duplicate, but actually the game is correct: at positions [gps=164.5,408.5,aquilo] and [gps=165.5,398.5,aquilo] there are 2 signals, both on the west side of the rail and as such game thinks that this rail is one direction only and all signals should be placed on the west side only. You can build signal on the west side of the rail and then a white spot will appear for the corresponding east side if you want to make the rail to become two directional without temporarily removing any rails.
