1 more week we have to wait wil 0.12 ??
comon iv been waiting for like 6 months

Ever written a single line of code or any project of moderate complexity?

It's delay, delay, and more delay.
That is why you tell the customer it is ready, when you think it could be ready 1.5 times.
That way you will be ready at that date, even with delay.
The above assumes that you planned your project in a detailed manner.
Project management basic lecture.

And then it ends up delayed even past that extended date heehee
Project management advanced lecture: no matter how carefully you've planned everything, the only release date your project won't miss will be the one you don't set ;)

And that's why I miss oldschool game companies stating "When it's done."

I actually like the fact that they don't stonewall us and are honest with us. I would much rather have the truth than the "It's done, when it's done."

Factorio guys, your doing great job, keep up the work.

Agreed. Nowadays people take too many things for granted.
Even Blizzard is giving reasonable estimates now... We live in a dark time...
At least there is still Valve....

Official release dates are the worst semi-standard in the entire game industry nowadays.

If they have an internal estimate that's perfectly fine and legit as it helps stuff getting done/finished.

But announcing an official one is like a nail to the coffin for community management. I've seen several hypetrains crash on various game projects for various reasons, but most commonly it's about not met release dates and/or lacking features due to trying to keep on track to make it for a set release date.

In the end one would just be better off not to announce anything up until the point one is 99.9% (there's never 100%) to make it for a set date and make it a surprise for the community rather than disappoint them by trying to drive the train down a rollercoaster track.

And about the dark time... I find it funny that some game developer or publisher said lately that this right now is the golden age of PC gaming... hahaha... as if. The golden age is over since 2004. Back in the days when most of the money was made because the game was actually good and not due to hype-pre-ordering without delivering a decent product or only with a ton of additional DLCs.

Well, your post ID starts with a 9 and nine is divisible by 3 and also gives a result of 3. Thus HL3 CONFIRMED.

In the real world though, it has not been confirmed.

They skip hl3 and go straight for hl4 (and mention stuff, that happened in hl3 ;) )
Any news, if 0.12 is possible this week ?

i'm hopeful since if they already knew they couldn't make it, it would have been 'leaked'

Which, honestly, would be the best if I had to decide it.

Because how is Valve supposed to meet all the expectations the players may or may not have accumulated about a sequel that has been rumored for more than 10 years.

Right... they can't. No matter how much time and how much money they invest, not only in developing a new engine, but also in content and story development in the end they won't be able to satisfy the players as they will have expected MORE than that due to how long it took Valve to come up with something.

Also at this point most of the people will probably have forgotten about Half Life altogether except some oldschool gamers not being able to grow up for some reason. I at least can't imagine that a 16 year old teenager really gives a damn about Half Life 3, especially when he's been 6 years old when the last installment hit the stores.

I wad thinking the same thing about most people forgetting, but I stopped and wondered if I was just getting old......
