[2.0.28] Dragging power pole upgrade results in redundant poles.

Things that we don't consider worth fixing at this moment.

[2.0.28] Dragging power pole upgrade results in redundant poles.

Post by Hares »

Steps to Reproduce
  1. Recreate the setup from the blueprint
  2. Pipette Q3 power pole
  3. Drag the power pole ghost cursor, from bottom to top, to upgrade all Q1 poles into Q3 ones (as upgrading all existing Q1 poles to Q3 would power all currently-unpowered buildings)
Expected:
  • All Q1 poles in column are upgraded to Q3
  • No new poles are built
Actual:
  • All Q1 poles in column are upgraded to Q3
  • Redundant poles are built after every 2 existing poles
  • Note: Dragging from top to bottom will also result in extra poles, but in different spots

Fulgora is the best planet. Vulcanus needs rework. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Thanks for the report however I don't believe we'll be doing anything about this. The official supported way to mass upgrade things is the upgrade planner. Click-and-drag - especially with electric poles - has a lot of existing corner cases it's attempting to handle. I don't consider it worth the additional complexity and likely additional bugs to try to account for this corner case.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

There's design flaw with the planners – without mods, you can't edit them until they are saved somewhere. And if using remote view, the only available spaces are library and taskbar. You use hotkey to get a tool. They you find a free spot on bar and save there. Then you edit it, selecting required entity from a massive list. Then you click 4 more times to set the target. Then you save & close. Then you find where you saved tge planner. And only after that you are allowed to drag to upgrade.

Compare it with:
Q -> Alt + M.Wheel -> Drag with keyboard
