UPS Platform Consumption

Post by andyseemight »

Hello,

Is there a tool or a mod or something to indicate which space platform is consuming the most UPS?

I know there is the Show-Time-Usage option when you press F4 but it only gives a broad overview of everything. As of this moment my saved game is running at an incredibly slow 22 FPS/UPS. I have paused all platforms to see if that helped the situation.

As you can see the Space platforms are consuming an inordinate amount of time. I actually have all of them paused and have waited for it to settle down but 2 hours later I am still experiencing this immense performance hit. I have 30 platforms and have deleted suspect platforms that I thought would have consumed a ton of computational resources but it did nothing. I waited the 5 minutes for it to be permanently deleted too from memory and still the same result.

Also all my ships except for 6 of them run on purely Legendary Solar Panels for power. The other 6 are fusion powered. As I was aware Solar Panels are preferred for UPS.

Any ideas? Is it possible to have an indicator for UPS consumption per platform in the platform tab?

Previously in Space Platform Optimization

I use the “Scenario Editor” to test different Platform layouts for their relative Performance (given the same # of Tiles & Engines) in isolation from other Platforms and Surfaces. Generally speaking, the bigger your ships are (Width being the biggest factor) the slower they will be. I have switched from using 320-tile-wide (the Fluid network maximum for thruster pipes) to only 32-wide, and it helped a lot.

30 seems like a lot of ships, even with trimming-down. There are only 5 planets (plus the Edge/not-a-Planet).

It would be interesting (aka: a Bug) if it turns out that Deleting a platform leads to an Entity/Memory leak somewhere. I think one was already fixed for Electric Networks leaking.

You could test for hyphotetical performance or resource leak. Save game, delete all space platforms one by one, watch resource use drop, verify it is zero (or otherwise as expected) when all platforms are gone. Then, you can restore your save.

Yep! That is actually what I spent all day yesterday doing. I have 20 ships that are identical but all do different things. 1 of these identical ships was causing a 40 FPS/UPS dip once it was paused. But once it starts up again the 40 FPS/UPS happens again. It's not doing anything out of the ordinary. I've got it idling in orbit doing nothing to save the computational resources.

Wish there was a tool to visually see where the UPS is hit is happening because its literally a clone of all other ships but only this particular one is killing the performance.

Please share your save with this particular ship causing UPS drops, it may be useful for developers if they decide to look into this case.

I'm very dumb and I have already saved over the game after deleting the ship :(

Surely you have autosaves and manual saves from day before or something?
