Folder in the mod page

Post by Green Cat »

I don't know how many people use over 100 mods that changes some settings, especially overhaul mods.

Sometimes there are issues with one mod, no clue which one so now you need to disable them one by one. I mean, to install them is easy, but not the reverse.

As a solution for this, i would suggest a tick box, that if enabeled, will create folders insted of the current version.

In this folder you can put mods to have them easily visible, as well as to enable and disable. Because i don't mean just 1 folder, but the ability to add folders in folder. As an exemple, someone installs Bobs mod pack, all of the mods will be in one folder. But if you want to also install Space exploration, that will clash with Bob's mods. And here is where this folder in folder comes in hand. The bob folder will have 2 (or more) folder. Folder 1 will be the one that are compatible with other overhauls, folder 2 will be mods that are not compatible but you want to keep them. And of course, folder 3 cand be mods you don't use (no clue why you don't just delete this) or other reason. And just like any folder, the ability to colapse. So we won't see thoes mods, only the folder. And via one single click on the space exploration, that mod is disabled, and by clicing on the main bob folder, all the mods in this folder (so folder 1 and folder 2) will be enabeled.

This also can be taken further by adding mod in mutiple folders. Why? in case they clash one with the other, to have them clearly in one folder. But also if they are part of a nother mod pack, to have this mod still in the other folder.

Like this, mod instaling, searching, and more, will be made way more easy.

And of course, this can be taken further

as an exemple, black list: any mod you never want to see ever again because you can't stand it OR did try it and it's not something you want to use, ever or simple because it's abandoned/someone else created a copy that you like more, so no need to see the original

a "wishlist" type of folder (no clue how to name it) where you put mods that you wait to get an update/bug fix or other reason

Like this we will greadly reduce the time needed to find mods, greatly increase the chances of people finding mods they never saw because the volume will be reduced (due to black list folder <- no mod isntalled, just their names = will not show up in search), enable and disable, and of course, the massive list (if you do install tons of mods) will be greatly reduced.

This is expecially helpfull for overhaul mods, where you want the original mods in one folder, and the mods that fix, oh sorry, i mean, ajust this overhaul mod, to be in another folder, and just with one click enable all of them. As well as all the planet related mods.

I may be wrong, but it looks like you're one of those funny people who aren’t aware of the already existing features of the Factorio mod management engine, yet ask for new ones that are actually inferior to what’s already available.
Except for the blacklist — everything else can easily be done with the existing features. And the argument for the blacklist doesn’t hold water.
