If the space platform is preforming a "fly-by" stop meaning that all the conditions are met for that planet and the platform can continue immediately, it doesn' actually drop the items that were manually sent to the orbital drop slots but only drops the stuff that is requested in the cargo landing pad.
In the attached video I show a space platform going from Nauvis to Gleba to Aquilo. I manually wanted to drop down 3 stacks of modules so I sent the platform on its way and queued the modules into orbital drop slots. When the platform "stops" at gleba it drops the 250 requested tungsten plates but not the modules and flies to Aquilo. If the space platform then has to wait in Aquilo's orbit to load science the modules would be dropped there instead of at Gleba like intended.

Thanks for the report however this is working correctly. The trash slots are only emptied every second or so. They are not intended to be a force-eject-to-planet feature and if that's what you want then you need the planet to request items - which then get force sent to the planet.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.
