Hello,
I recently bought Factorio on steam for me and my friend so we could play together. But when he joins my game the game starts to lag heavily so for the past few hours i have been trying to set up a dedicated server by adding the .Bat file into the /bin/x64 file. The server works fine but when i try and launch my factorio to play on it i get this error: "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." so i tried moving the .Bat file to a different location but that didn't work. Can someone help me?
Thanks.

Re: Multiplayer Server not working?
I had the same issue. One of my friends has less than stellar internet connection, where as mine is pretty good. I thought that maybe playing on the dedicated server would help. I was wrong. In fact it was a little worse. Kind of a bummer because it took me a long time to get passed the exact issue you describe. I followed the instructions at the bottom of page one of this post: viewtopic.php?f=53&t=20811&p=130869#p130869 It was a little tricky. If you have any more questions I can try and help you out. Unfortunately it seems like the dedicated server is really just for running a constant game all the time regardless if you're connected to it. The lag will not change.
Re: Multiplayer Server not working?
I second this, the lag is usually not due to "crappy hardware not being able to run both as a client and server" but rather it's latency related - adding yet another client to the pool of already connected players - as you noticed - only increases the amount of network traffic and round trips that has to be done across the internet to communicate with all player and thus also increases the lagFoxyGrandpa wrote:The lag will not change.

Re: Multiplayer Server not working?
I am so angry that I can barely speak straight.
I convinced my friends to purchase this game almost a year ago, and the multiplayer was glitchy as all hell. I promised them "just wait for Steam".
Now, its on Steam, and still requires Byzantine methods to even CONNECT to each other. A can connect to B, but not C, B can connect to C, but not A, and C can't connect to anyone.
Quit making the icons look pretty, and fix the damn game. We paid money for a promise of multiplayer, and so far all we've gotten is a lazy, ineffective, infuriating, constant "wait for the next update!"
Fix it.

Re: Multiplayer Server not working?
let me know if you need any help - begin by port forwarding UDP 34197 in each of your routers (or one of you does then the rest can connect to him/her as long as you do not enable the peer-to-peer optionMacArther wrote:Fix it.

Re: Multiplayer Server not working?
If the issue is you just can't get two of the players to talk to each other, you might try Evolve. I had success with that early on when I had router issues. Each player would install it, join a lobby together, then connect to the host's Evolve private IP address via the VPN it sets up. Avoids any need for port forwarding/etc.
Re: Multiplayer Server not working?
They haven't got it on steam servers yet so be patient. This game is ridiculous amount of fun!! Even single player is fun.MacArther wrote:I am so angry that I can barely speak straight.
