Mods on 0.13 GOG

The mod portal in 0.13 requires me to log in with my Factorio account. Using my (free) account only displays the message
"Insufficient membership. Login requires a membership which owns the game. Please buy the game on our website or via retailers (Steam, GOG)."

I cannot find anything related to a Factorio account on the GOG page itself and the Factorio account settings allow to link with a Steam account, but again nothing related to GOG.
This is somewhat ironic as the message tells me to buy the game with GOG being one of the options, but then leaves me unable to use the mod portal and update check
and the game just displays the same message again and again .

Did I miss something? How am I supposed to use these functions with the copy that I bought on GOG?

Check your GOG profile, there is a serial number. Use it to upgrade your account on factorio.com

I can't download mods anyway because of "Internal server error", but at least you'll get an update. Better than nothing

is the "internal server error" in the mod portal a known bug, they're working on? i couldn't find a thread about it specifically.

They said the mod portal has some problems and they're continuously improving it.
