Just stumbled over this foto series about iron ore mining in Mauretania. The captions are in german though. They use trains with up to 200 wagons which transport up to 21.000 metric tons of ore per ride. They are some of the heaviest and biggest trains in the world. They also use transport belts in some cases. I thought maybe that's interesting for some of you
I've heard of that. As I remember, the biggest problem is the abrasion of the rails due to the sand and the heavy wagons, which work together like sandpaper.
