Hello,
Yesterday me and my friends had a LAN party, and we wanted to play factorio.
Due to a bad cable we didn't have any internet connection but we all were connected to the LAN.
I could ping my friends' computer and it gave a normal response, but I could not connect to my friends' LAN hosted server. I tried connecting through the LAN server browser and through direct connect, both with and without the port after the ip (192.168.X.XX:34197).
We were playing the steam version, and steam was (of course) in offline mode.
Is there any way to prevent this from happening again in the future?
Thanks,
Gladuin

Re: [0.16.51] Offline LAN game doesn't want to connect.
I can't check atm, but one possible cause is that the server option to "verify user identity" needs to connect to Wube's/Factorio's servers, so will only work with internet access. (I'm also not sure about whether Steam will allow multiplayer gaming whilst in offline mode. The only time I tried this, I was using the .zip downloads).

If you aren't able to connect through direct connect due to it saying it "couldn't establish network communication with the server" that means that the packets just aren't getting to the server. The most likely scenario is the local firewall on the machine is blocking the game. The easiest way to test that is to just turn it off and see if it works. If it does, then you know it's that and you just have to add an exception for the game.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

This was off, IIRC
This was probably the case, since Windows autoselects allow firewall for internet but doesn't autoselect LAN network. I'll check that the next time!
