Odd Pipe Placement Phenomenon

Odd Pipe Placement Phenomenon
Suppose I build an L of pipes like this:
If I drag my mouse from the top left most pipe, down one tile, and to the right out the other side, I place extra pipes erroneously.
I'm using a jetpack mod, however I don't think this should interfere with pipe placement.
